Appears on my 1933 map along what in now MA 121 to Wrentham and MA 1A into Dedham. The 1936 shows 11 cut back to match current 121. The 11 numbering lasted at least through 1961; by 1966 it was gone.

Boston routing of Rt 1

History

This route first appears on my 1939 map. It ran along Brookline Ave north from its intersection with Jamaicaway (then US 1) to Beacon St. It stayed along the south bank of the Charles, through the Sumner tunnel and up Chelsea St. Along an un-named street to the interesection of Revere Beach Parkway and Beach St, it then headed over to Broadway, up International St to the Bennett Hwy and rejoined US 1. C1 was decomissioned in 1971.
